Searching your Web site with Sherlock

    You can use Sherlock to search the contents of your Web site if
    searching is enabled on the Web server
    the client computer has a Web browser installed

Enabling searching on the Web server

    To enable searching with Sherlock:
    1 Create an index for the volume on which the Web folder is located (not for the Web folder itself).
    2 Check to be sure the Sherlock Plugin is in the Plug-Ins folder in your server's Web folder.

Searching the Web site from a client computer

    To search the Web site with Sherlock:
    1 From a client computer, open a Web browser and enter the URL http://website/.sherlock, where "website" is the DNS name of your Web server.
    2 Type the words you want to search for, then click Search.
    Sherlock returns a list of up to 100 links to file names that contain the search text.

Customizing search results

    You can customize how search results are displayed by editing the SherlockOutput.html file, which is located in the default Web folder. Once you edit the file, you must copy it to the same folder that contains the Sherlock.html file, or you can copy it to the folder used for your Web site.
